The official website of Makoto Shinkai's new anime movie, Tenki no Ko, announced that the film is receiving an adaptation to a novel. As with other novel adaptations of his works, Shinkai himself is writing the novel, and will be available in digital and printed format on July 18.
The film will debut in Japan on July 19. Shinkai confirmed that the film will be released worldwide, and the launches have already been decided for North America, Europe, Asia and South America.

Makoto Shinkai (Kimi no Nawa, Kotonoha no Niwa, Byousoku 5 Centimeter) is credited with the original work, and he is also directing and writing the screenplays for the film at the CoMix Wave Films studios. Masayoshi Tanaka (Kimi no Na Wa, Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae or Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai, Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterun Da) is responsible for character design. Atsushi Tamura (Neko no Ongaeshi, Kidō Senshi Gundam: The Origin) is in charge of the direction of animation and Hiroshi Takiguchi (Kotonoha no Niwa, Ajin) is in charge of art direction. STORY inc. is accredited as a producer, and TOHO will distribute the film. The RADWIMPS band interprets the main theme of the film and provides the music for the film.
Synopsis
The story centers on the high school student Hodaka, who leaves his home on an isolated island and moves to Tokyo, but immediately loses all his money. Now, living his days in isolation, he finally finds a job as a writer for a magazine.
After starting his work, apparently, the weather has not changed from being rainy since then. Thus, one afternoon, Hodaka meets a young woman named Hina, who, due to certain circumstances, lives alone with her younger brother, with difficulties but with a happy and very stable life.
Also, Hina has a strange power: stop the rain and clear the skies ...
