Spring comes in March, but do you know what else is coming this month? That's right, Fruits basket !, one of the most anticipated shojos of recent years, is now available in the country thanks to Panini Manga. But that's not all, the edition that you can buy every two months for $ 219 MXN is the collector's version. Without further ado, join us in our review of this endearing romance.

As we said, this version for collectors, or Aizoban, is not only of better quality than the Tankobon, but includes new covers and is larger: 18x12.8 cm, to be exact. In addition, it compiles two volumes in one, so this edition will have 12 volumes and not 23 as in its first Japanese publication.
The dust jacket is white and on matt coated paper. On the cover we see the protagonist, Toru Honda, wearing her school uniform: a long-sleeved navy blue seifuku with a white sailor collar and her characteristic yellow ribbons on both sides of her brown hair.
In the upper left, in capital letters and in pink typeface, are the title of the work, “Fruits Basket”, the author's name, Natsuki Takaya, and the clarification that it is the collectors' version. Below these elements and in black is the numbering corresponding to this volume. To finish with the cover, on the lower right side is the small Panini Manga logo. On the spine we note the length of the work, as it is wider than the average sleeve; Here we find, in the same pink typeface, the general data, in addition to the female characters that we see in the dust jacket.
On the upper right side of the back cover we see, with the same color and typography, the identification data of the work. On the left side, the box with the price, country, recommended age (+13 years) and below the barcode. In the center of the back cover we see Kyoko Honda, the protagonist's red-haired mother, with her arms crossed and wearing a red jacket with white stripes with gold details on a black t-shirt and a light gray pleated skirt. In the flaps we only have two elements: in one, a small onirigi, and in the other, a box where Toru appears smiling. The gift divider has the same artwork printed on the covers.

The paper of the soft covers is matt matt again and in it we see the same illustration of Toru as on the cover, only without the identification data and in pink ink. The spine has the same characteristics as its similar color, as does the back cover, where we appreciate Kyoko again.
Once the exterior is finished, let's move on to the interior, not without first mentioning that the art of the covers differs from the rest of the manga, which is natural given that, over time, the artists' drawing style changes, and Natsuki Takaya does not. was the exception.

The first four sheets of the manga are in color and all are illustrations of the different characters in the story, so all the chapters are in black and white. The translation of this edition was in charge of Marta E. Gallego; work on which we have no negative observation: the small boxes have translation, as well as the author's comments between sheets. As always, Mythos Editora was in charge of editorial production.

If you want to have it in your hands, the best option to buy it is at Tienda Panini Frikiplaza Uruguay, located at 📍FrikiPlaza Local 151, 152 y 153, República de Uruguay 17, Centro, CDMX. Also, if they are from other countries, the Mangabrería online store will send them to your door, they are totally reliable!

BOYS WHO TRANSFORM INTO ANIMALS!

Fruits Basket tells us the story of Toru Honda, a girl who, after the death of her mother in a traffic accident, is forced to leave her home to live in a makeshift store in the middle of the forest. Despite this, she always maintains a positive attitude, since she has known that hard work has its reward since childhood. Everything changes when, exploring the forest, he arrives at the house of Yuki Soma, the most attractive boy in his school, and after several incidents related to the Chinese zodiac, he ends up living with him and the Soma family.
From Panini Manga we get the following synopsis:
In the course of a few months, the student Toru Honda loses her mother and her home, so she has no choice but to live in a tent in the middle of the forest. Without her knowing it, very close to there live Yuki Soma, considered "the prince" of his institute, with his cousin Shigure. When they see Toru's situation, the Soma offer to shelter her in their home. This is how the young woman begins to meet the members of the Soma family and to be part of the strange secret that they all hide.

Natsuki Takaya offers us a reverse harem in the purest 90s style: a good-hearted girl and a group of colorful boys in comic and tender situations. Everything in a classic drawing: huge eyes, very slim and long bodies; as well as very upturned chin faces. A complete change if we compare the ancient art to that of the cover.
Classified in the genres of romance, comedy, supernatural and reverse harem, this manga has all the elements for those who like plots where different boys pretend to be the charismatic protagonist. If you're also interested in Chinese zodiac signs, give Fruits basket a try.

MORE ABOUT THE CHINESE ZODIAC

Fruits Basket began its publication in the magazine Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from July 1998 to November 2006, when it ended after 136 chapters collected in 23 volumes. On September 4, 2015, along with the Japanese publication of the new Aizoban edition, serialization of a sequel titled Fruits Basket Another began on the HanaLaLaOnline website, which consists of three volumes.

The series has enjoyed great popularity over the years, which is why it has been published in more than ten countries, including Mexico. It should be mentioned that this is not the first time that this series touches Mexican soil, previously it was Editorial Vid who was in charge of editing this manga in its tankobon format.
This story has also been one of those few anime cases that gets a remake after several years. The first version was in charge of Akitaro Daichi, and, with the animation of Studio Deen, there were 26 episodes transmitted by TV Tokyo from July to December 2001. In November 2018, seventeen years later, Funimation announced that it would produce a new adaptation it would cover the entire manga; however, he also announced a completely new cast, which caused annoyance for Takaya Natsuki and the team from the previous project. The first season aired from April to September 2019 and the second season is expected to start on April 6 of this year.

Promotional video for the remake of Fruits Basket

Rated 8.48 out of 10 by more than 50 thousand users, it goes without saying that this is a classic romance story that has accompanied several generations not only with its manga, but with its adaptations to the small screen. We recommend it if you are looking for a tender plot with its good dose of fun loving entanglements.

Finally Fruits Basket is already available, what do they say, were you expecting it? Would you like to read your follow-up too? In the meantime, here we end the review and hope you found it useful, follow us for more quality content. Until next time!
