Background
Nakamura released the manga adaptation of the homonymous novel by Arata Kanou, in July 2017. The spinoff novel Kimi no Na wa. derived from Makoto Shinkai, focuses on supporting characters and secondary stories not portrayed in the film.
The book was launched in Japan in July 2016. Kanou has also written adaptations to multi-manga novel by Makoto Shinkai, Hoshi no Koe; Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho, as well as a spinoff novel by Byousoku 5 Centimeter. The character designer for animated series Masayoshi Tanaka, drew the cover, and Hiyori Asahikawa illustrated the novel.

Synopsis
The novel begins with Taki inside Mitsuha's body while trying to get to know Mitsuha's hometown, how people talk behind their backs and how hard it can be to put on a brassiere. The second story focuses on Tessie, son of a contractor and friend of Mitsuha. Tessie dreams of changing her hometown, and Taki (like Mitsuha) helps him. The third story focuses on Yotsuha and how she sees in Mitsuha the reflection of her mother Futaba. The fourth story focuses on Toshiki, Mitsuha's father, and how he falls in love with Futaba, and his reaction when she dies.
